JAKARTA: The city administration is aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30 percent by 2030 by installing more eco-friendly street lights across the city.

Industry and Energy Agency chief Andi Baso said that to conserve energy, the city would install a total of 3,090 LED lights along two elevated roads in Central and South Jakarta that are currently under construction.

“LED lights can save electricity by up to 50 percent compared to regular street lights. And unlike regular lights, one LED light can cut emissions by 0.89 percent,” he said as quoted by beritajakarta.com

In Jakarta, Andi said 222,342 regular street lights were still in operation, drawing 45-50 megawatts per day, while there were only 92 lights that used solar power.

However, the cost of conversion to LED or solar-powered lights requires careful consideration, and he said that his agency is drafting a proposal for the city council's consideration.

Andi said converting all street lights to LED lights would cost the city Rp 3 trillion (US$31.7 billion), and that the price of solar-powered lights was higher still. “The price of one solar-powered light is Rp 30 million,” he said.

  1. In fact its Jakarta Administration aims well but that would be a waste of money, it ought to Jakarta the provincial in addressing greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the personal vehicle of its growing population.

Its supposed to existing vehicles in Jakarta should reduce its growth and divert people to a better public transport and convenient.

In dealing with this Jakarta Administration should be more serious about it, in because what if it should be realized it was done properly and not leave it alone.

Moreover, the money spend on the project bit so people do not want her special provincial governments of DKI Jakarta - should really do it well rather than just a mere discourse alone.

City government should deal with things - things that are important to the welfare of its people in terms of annual flooding, traffic jams are then continuously, and in the had exceeded population too.
